SUNDAY (April 19, 2015)

“Order of Worship” Ω

WE ARE LED INTO GOD’S PRESENCE

Splendor and honor and kingly power are yours by right, O Lord our God, for you created everything that is, and by your will they were created and have their being; and yours by right, O Lamb that was slain, for with your blood you have redeemed for God, from every family, language, people, and nation, a kingdom of priests to serve our God. And so, to him who sits upon the throne, and to Christ the Lamb, be worship and praise, dominion and splendor, for ever and for evermore. (Morning Prayer II: A Song to the Lamb — Book of Common Prayer 93-94)

Praying with the Communion of Saints

O God, you make us glad with the weekly remembrance of the glorious resurrection of your Son our Lord: Give us this day such blessing through our worship of you, that the week to come may be spent in your favor; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (A Collect for Sundays — Book of Common Prayer 98)

Psalm for the DayPsalm 69:1-18 (Sing)

WE LISTEN TO GOD’S WORD

Reading the Word – Mark 8 (3-Year Plan)

A period of silence may follow for reflection & recording insights.

John Wesley Sermon 43 – “The Scripture Way of Salvation”  //  3. “What Was the Purpose of the Priesthood & Sacrificial System?” by Timothy Tennent  //  4. “Jesus’ Cross, Resurrection, & Mission” by Brian Russell  //  5. WE LIVE IN PRAYERFUL RESPONSE TO GOD

As we pray (Listening as well as offering up prayers of Adoration, Confession of Sin, Thanksgiving, & Supplication), we might include in our praying:

The Jesus Creed*

The Lord’s Prayer** (Prayed, Used as a Guide, or Both)

* – “Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these” (Mark 12:29-31, NIV 2011).

** – Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Ω NOTE: The following “Order of Worship” is offered as a possible way into prayerful communion with the Triune God of the Bible and into earnestly listening for God’s revelation of His nature, saving work, and will through the Scriptures. However, depending upon your time limitations, interests, and convictions, one can “pick and choose” what it will look like for him or her to seek God through disciplined engagement with Scripture (“Read”) and Prayer (“Pray”) with the goal of receiving and reflecting the love of God (“Love”) every day of our lives (“Daily”).
